Translating Windows and Components

The process of translating windows and components consists of defining translations for the text that is already defined inside of them. The most efficient way of doing this is through the Component Translation Panel, which can be opened through various means:

Opening the Component Translation Window

CTRL-T while a component or window is selected
Right click on component and select "Translations"
View>Panels>Translatable Terms

NB: If the translation panel does not appear, it is sometimes necessary to first select View>Reset Panels (this is usually only necessary once, after an upgrade).

The Component Translation Panel

The component translation panel inspects the currently selected component(s), optionally recursing down through containers, and displays all discovered text that may be translated. From there, you may double click a term in order to define a translation, or may select to "mark term for translation", which will add it to the central term database for later translation.

The panel has various filtering options, and also allows you to view local container-level translations as well. As described in the introduction, "container level" translations are essentially "translation overrides" that are defined on the window or template level. This makes it possible to export, share, and import translated windows and templates.

Translating Individual Properties

Translation may be defined through the Properties panel by clicking on the "Edit Text" (text) button on any string property, and then on the "Translate" (earth2) button.

Previewing Translations

Translations may be previewed in the designer through preview mode in several ways. Using the Language Selector Component or scripting will temporarily change the current language, but the language will revert back to the base language (which is normally English) when preview mode is disabled. To change the preferred language for preview mode, use the Preview Language menu item under the Project menu in the Designer. This selection will persist even after preview mode is disabled and will persist when the designer is restarted. It is not currently possible to define translations while displaying in a different language.
